Early edition of the "Athenian Oracle", a compendium of the popular feature in Dunton's "Athenian Mercury" which was written with three other authors calling themselves the Athenian Society. This feature was the "Dear Abby" of early 18th century England, "The major innovation Dunton introduced was that readers could write questions to the editors and have them answered without having their identities revealed...The questions ranged from the silly to the profound, but the vast majority had to do with love, courtship, and marriage" (Penn State Archive of 18th-Century Periodicals).
