132 palm leaves, loose between wooden covers. Each leaf approximately 3x9", with manuscript in black and red inks on rectos and versos, the recto of each leaf stained bright yellow. Includes three polychrome Buddhist miniatures with gold highlights, each about 3x2½", with tissue guards.

Very attractive palm leaf book. Palm leaf books originated with the Buddhist tradition in India about 1200 years ago and were dispersed to the rest of South Asia and Southeast Asia after the Islamic invasion of India in the 12th century. This book has three lovely small paintings, with beautiful detail.
