Front cover detached, minor edgewear; first title and frontispiece relaid; lacking two plates from Part I (and also without the portrait sometimes found); frontispiece, first 10 plates and about 20 others dampstained; scattered minor browning and marginal foxing; pl. 11 with 2” edge tear just into image; scattered small marginal flaws/stains (including a chip to pl. 79), old marginal repairs to pls. 50 & 54; U4 (Part I) with large renewal to margin (the lacking shoulder notes and few letters supplied in manuscript by an early hand). Early ownership signature and multiple flourishes of Thomas Wells on verso of final text leaf (bled through a bit), and presumably his scattered markings throughout, including a copied drawing of the lion beneath pl.9 and two “additions” in the form of small animals on pls. 18 & 40. Overall, still in about very good condition.
