3-line autograph note appended to a typed record of a bet made between Sam Goldwyn and Hearst, in pencil on orange paper. Written in the third person, but in Hearst's hand.

In typescript, the note records: "Mr. Hearst bet Mr. Samuel Goldwyn $100 that Roosevelt will be nominated for third term against Mr. Goldwyn's $300 that he will not." The autograph note reads: "Dear Mr. Goldwyn, I have the above memorandum of a bet which you and Mr Hearst made and which you and he asked me to record." A draft note written by Hearst with multiple corrections. Marion Davies had signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the mid-20's. Davies' films were not money-makers, but MGM was eager for the enormous publicity that an alliance with Hearst provided. Hearst loved to hobnob with the Hollywood crowd at San Simeon, and although he did not suppport Roosevelt, would still have been delighted to win this bet.
