Rare radio script dated Friday, October 16, 1942 with a presentation inscription signed from Amos and Andy to the noted Los Angeles columnist for the Herald Examiner Jimmy Starr. The “Amos ‘N’ Andy” show was one of the most influential radio programs in American broadcasting history with over 4000 episodes running from 1928 to 1955, and ran as a popular television series with 78 episodes from 1951 to 1953. Created and portrayed by Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll, two white actors who mimicked the two characters Amos Jones and Andy Brown with so-called Negro dialect. It became the first original series devised for the broadcast medium and the first to be distributed by syndication. It captured the attention of more than 40 million Americans, nearly one-third of the nation’s population during its peak.
