Interesting photograph of San Francisco's Palace Hotel on Market Street with almost no people, carriages or cable cars present, except for two parked horse-drawn carriages. Normally, a very busy and bustling section of the city, as seen in an accompanying clipped paper illustration showing a street scene in front of the Palace Hotel from an 1875 engraving. Bottom floor stores of the hotel include: Stack & Lacombe, Hatters (located there from 1877-1895); J.G. Steele, Chemists (located there from 1892-1895), plus other trade shops. Taber's rubberstamp on the lower right margin of card-stock mount.
