Panoramic photogravure of San Francisco after the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, originally taken by George R. Lawrence. Image measures 11¼x30" (plus margins), matted and framed (20½x38¾" overall).

Terrific view showing a large section of the destruction and devastation caused by the famous earthquake and fire, which occurred during April 18 to 21, 1906. This photograph was first taken on May 5, 1906, only a few weeks after the event by George R. Lawrence (1869-1938). Lawrence, with the aid of his assistants, used a heavy kite he called his "Captive Airship" that held a panoramic swing lens camera, which took photographs with a field of view around 130°. Title and photographer's information lettered in the negative.
