Miles Davis (1926-1991), a legend, whose career spans 45 years, was at the forefront of jazz evolution. Davis "had three or four major musical shifts in direction during his career. Likely the most dramatic took place during 1969 & 1970. It was at this critical juncture in time that he essentially turned his back to jazz tradition almost entirely. Miles chose at this time to meld together some of the primal, guttural aspects of rock…[and] added the jazz groove and virtuosity of his hand picked band mates. Thus was born the jazz rock fusion as we came to know it. In the space of fourteen months from Feb. 1969 to April 1970 Miles would record 3 LPs. Starting with 'In A Silent Way' on to 'Bitches Brew' and ending with 'Jack Johnson'" - See "Miles Davis" by Doc Hight. Photographer's rubberstamp on the verso of each.
