Comprising: Two Incan women with a llama next to a stone dwelling; herd of llama on a snowy slope; Incan stone walls. 5¼x3¼" each (image size), except last photograph is 5½x3½ without margins (probably later printing). All unmailed, with Martin Chambi's inkstamp on versos. The scene with the two women is captioned on the verso and dated 11 June 1934.

Martin Chambi (1891-1973) was Peru's leading photographer in the early 20th century and Latin America's first internationally known indigenous photographer. His portraits of fellow Incans have the honesty and sensitivity of a compatriot's eye, and his photographs of Machu Picchu are especially iconic as the site had become known to the outside world for the first time relatively recently. These are beautiful and increasingly rare images, by the "poet of light".
