Three gelatin silver prints of a nude, originally taken circa 1940's. Each photo measures 12¾x6¾" mounted on white card-stock matting (22x27¾" overall).

Inscribed and signed by Ruth Bernhard on the bottom margin "Today is the day! For Virginia, Ruth Bernhard." The nude model's first name is Virginia, but it cannot be confirmed that it is indeed inscribed to her. Signed on the matting verso in ink: "Given & signed: October / 99 - a week before Ruth's birthday, 10/13/99." Ruth Bernhard (1905- ), was born in Berlin and after two years at the Berlin Academy of Art, she moved to New York to pursue a career in photography. Later, she moved to California where she worked with Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Minor White, Wynn Bullock and others. Today, her work is displayed in several major museums and galleries throughout the world. In 1986, Photography West published “The Eternal Body,” a monograph on her nudes that received Photography Book of the Year, bringing Bernhard widespread recognition as a master photographer of the nude.
