Signed by the author, prior to actual publication, on the front free endpaper: "F. Scott Fitzgerald, St. Paul, Minn, Feb 6th, 1922." Bruccoli notes that the book was printed in January 1922 and published March 4, 1922. First printing without advertisements at rear. There was also a Canadian issue "probably" using sheets "of Scribner's first printing with a partially reset gathering [1]6 of preliminaries." This copy with an armorial bookplate which is almost certainly that of James Branch Cabell, with the Cabell family motto "Impavide" and motifs from Cabell's work. Cabell was a popular allegorical novelist of the 1920's. He was Fitzgerald's editor at Scribner's and his friend. Bruccoli A8.I.a.
