Figures of the Birds is comprised of only the illustrations, printed on rectos only, with tissue guards. 10½x6, period half calf, spines gilt with red morocco lettering-pieces.

Wonderful collection of Bewick's important natural history works on large paper. The Birds in particular, with its hundreds of illustrations and fanciful tail-pieces, is a Bewick favorite. The dates on each title-page besides the "Figures of Birds" (dated 1800) have been very neatly effaced. Vol. 1 had an ad. for the 4th Ed. Quadrupeds which appeared in 1800. Quadrupeds is extra-illustrated with inserted portrait frontispiece and a few plates.
