Comprises: Typed letter signed "Edward, Duke of Windsor," to Barnum L. Colton, President, The National Bank of Washington. 10¼x7¼", 1-page on Edward's personal stationary with crest, The Towers, The Waldorf-Astoria, New York, May 23, 1962. He thanks Colton for his hospitality at Burning Tree and tells him: "how much I enjoyed our golf game in your company and that of our mutual friends Britten Browne and Laun Thompson. I was more than ashamed of the way I played, for, believe it or not, I can score a little better than I did. On the other hand, had I done so with a stroke a hole you and Britt even with his sensational seventy-seven, might both have the poorer. Since you told me that James Munro [sic] had an account at your Bank, the book I send you under separate cover describing how he secured substantial sums from the United States Congress...may be of interest...Munroe [sic] will still go on in history as a great public servant of your country." * The Burning Tree Club scorecard of the round, signed on the front cover "Edward, Duke of Windsor," with all four scores. Edward scored 96, but did record a birdie on the par-tree 14th. 5½x3¾" (folded). * Wilmerding, Jr. James Monroe: Public Claimant. [This copy was sent by Edward as a gift to Colton, as referred to in his letter]. Cloth, dj. 1st Ed. Rutgers Univ. Press, [1960]. (Old tape stains on front endpapers). * A carbon copy of Colton's response to Edward's letter, dated May 25, 1962, speaking of their golf round, offering a return engagement, and thanking him for the book, with envelope. Together, 4 items (plus photocopies of all the items).
