Each of the four gouache paintings unsigned and are after the art work originally created by Charles Crombie. Includes: Rules XV, XVII, XXIII, and XXXI. Each penciled on the verso: "Gouache/20th Century 1 of 4." Images measure 6x8½" painted on 7½x13¼" thick card-stock.

Charles Crombie (1885-1967) original painted these wonderful images for his book The Rules of Golf Illustrated (c.1905), which displays whimsical characters in nursery-rhyme style medieval clothes caught in impossible golfing situations. These well-executed sets of four paintings have slight variants from the originals done by Crombie, of which Crombie had signed (these being not signed). Artist's name for these gouaches not identified. See Donovan & Murdoch 13510 (for the published book).
