Copper-engraved map, hand-colored in outline & wash, surrounded by 19 colored vignettes of natives & city views. 41.2x55.6 cm. (16¼x22"), laid on backing board, matted.

Superb map of Asia, with five vignettes on either side depicting natives in mufti, and 9 small views of cities at the top, incl. Calcutta, Goa, Damascus, Jerusalem, Aden, Macao, etc. The coloring is fairly light, as if somewhat faded; the mount likely dates from the middle of the 20th century, and is not archival.
