2 volumes. Illustrated with 63 plates, 42 of which are chromolithographs, plus some text illustrations printed in color (in vol. 1) and 4 leaves showing marks. (folio) 15½x10¾, period red half morocco gilt-lettered, spine gilt in compartments, all edges gilt.

Beautiful edition, dating less than a decade after the Paris Exposition of 1867 when Europe seemed to discover Japanese art. Includes a very good history of and guide to Japanese ceramics together with detailed descriptions of the pieces reproduced, including dimensions and provenance. Most of the pieces are from private English collections including those of the Duke of Edinburgh, A.W. Franks, Major J. Walter and both of the authors.
