Rare work of fiction by an African American who pioneered in motion pictures, and has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. The pictorial endpapers feature a portrait of Micheaux, and a blurb about his life, beginning with his experiences as a 21-year-old homesteader on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, "where he was just about the only Negro settler." Oscar Micheaux, 1884-1951, was the first man to produce a full-length, eight-reel, all-Black movie ("Homesteader," in 1918), and the first African American to write and publish a best-selling novel ("Wingate," in 1945).
