Interesting early colonial document indicative of the expansion of communication in New England at the beginning of the 18th century. The document relates that the "Great & General Court or Assembly" met and decided an "upper road or highway proposed to be layd out in Freetown be established..." The sheriff is to "summon a sufficient number of able men out of the towns adjacent who being impanelled and sworn by a justice of peace as by law so directs, may be impanelled as a jury for the laying out of the sd uper road or high way in Freetown..."
