Jaillot's North America, California an island, based on the maps of Nicolas Sanson. McLaughlin remarks "California with indented northern coast. Mer de Iesso and Terre de Iesso Ieco to northwest, and Agubela de Gato as peninsula to northeast." There is an additional title along the top of the map, "America Septentrionalis in Suas Praecipuas Partes Divisa, Ad Usum Serenissima Burgundiae Ducis." McLaughlin indentifies two states to the map, one dated 1694, and one undated with the added imprint of R. & J. Ottens, Amsterdam, within the scale cartouche at lower left. This copy has no date, but also no imprint of the Ottens, likely some intermediate state. McLaughlin also notes it as being separately published. Leighly 98; McLaughlin 113; Wheat Transmississippi 74.
