Copper-engraved map, hand-colored in outline, uncolored pictorial cartouche. On 4 sheets joined into 2 pairs (north and south), overall approx. 83x86 cm (32½x34").

Large, well-engraved, and influential map of North and Central America, with the West Indies. In the west, as Wagner notes. "it shows only a small corner of Lower California to 27o with a few Vizcaino names and some of the Jesuit names in the interior..." This is apparently the fifth state of the map, issued in 1761, with the addition of Socorro island and Passion Island ("I. de la Passion découverte en 1715") in the Pacific.
