Signed by the author on the front free endpaper: "John Dos Passos / Aug 31 - '40". A very nice copy in a rare jacket of the author's first book, preceding the American edition. Dos Passos' impressions of what he saw and felt in WWI, signed by him towards the beginning of WWII. This is the second state with perfect type on p. 35, line 32.
