Description:

[1] (title leaf), [3]-292 pp. (12mo) 5¾x2¾, later (but not recent) half calf and marbled boards, morocco lettering piece. First Edition.

Rare index or digest to the "Laws and Acts of Parliament", a compilation of Scottish legal matters dating from the first parliament of King James I in 1424 into the reign of Charles II, which work was published 1681 in folio, and 1682-83 in 2 volumes, 12mo. (see previous catalogue entry). Subject digests in the "Index" (including "Foot-ball and Golf") include page reference to the 12mo edition of "Laws and Acts." Wing S1247. Both golf and football were proscribed during the reigns of James I, II, & III, as diverting men from more martial sports; i.e. archery.

Condition:

Slight fading to spine; text lightly foxed; bound rather tight at the gutter; upper corner tip of title page torn away, very good.
