Intriguing manuscript. Pencil note to front free endpaper suggests text is part of Clarendon's "History of the Rebellion" but it seems to more closely correspond to volumes 2 & 3 of "The Life of Edward earl of Clarendon" which was first published at the Clarendon Press, Oxford, in 1759, with many editions following. Possibly an editor's or printer's copy with corrections, revisions, excisions, etc. to text. Clarendon was Chancellor of Oxford University from 1660 until his banishment in 1667. His manuscripts were presented to the University by his heirs and the subsequent profits from publication in 1702-04 of his "True Historical Narrative of the the Rebellion and Civil Wars in England" financed the Oxford printing house which bears his name to this day. Handwritten auction receipt dated Pittsburgh, 1855 (?) indicates 3 volumes were originally present.
