First published in 1524, the Cosmographicus of Peter Apian (1495-1552) was one of the most important works on astronomy, cartography, and navigation of the era. Many of the woodcuts demonstrate his principles of cartographic projection, triangulation, etc. Very nicely printed with crisp letterpress and woodcuts, and operable volvelles. Sabin notes that Chapter 4 relates to America, and the moveable woodcut map on leaf XXXII identifies the Western hemisphere as "America." Sabin 1742.
