Early account of the westward migration to Oregon. "Farnham was the leader of…the `Peoria Party.' Leaving [in]…1839, the party followed the Santa Fe Trail to Bent's Fort…where they divided. Farnham...traveled up the Arkansas, over the divide to the North Platte River, and…continued to Oregon...." - Wagner-Camp, which also quotes Streeter quoting Herschel Jones: "This is the first and most interesting of his several books on the West....the best account of the first overland-to-Oregon migration of settlers." The present edition was issued as an "Extra" of the New York Tribune. The original wrappers were not retained when bound.
