Intriguing series of candid photographs taken in the African bush and in camp. Lt. A.F.P. Knapp served in the Nigerian Regiment from 1910 to 1914. The present album is signed in ink at front A.F.P. Knapp, Northern Nigeria, 1911, Linford, Sept. 1911. Each of the photographs is captioned in ink by Knapp, on the mount. Included are views of "The Rukuba Patrol 1911. My Tent"; "My Cook"; "A Native Hunter"; "Pagans who came up to Mt. Amo with me"; "Troops awaiting orders to attack"; "After the battle, burning the native huts"; "On the River Niger"; and many others. About a dozen mounts are empty, the photos having been removed. A marvelous look at Africa and her colonial overlords, at the beginning of the last century.
