Rare presentation copy, inscribed "From the Author" on front free endpaper. Francis Galton (1821-1911) was a cousin of Charles Darwin, and a genius in his own right. He is reported to have memorized both the Iliad and the Odyssey by age 6, having learned to read by the age of 3. In his long career he published 100s of papers and books in a variety of including statistics, psychology, forensics, et al. "Hereditary Genius" was first published in 1870. Galton's researches and observations concerning heredity and intelligence led him to formulate the science of "eugenics" which term he coined.
