Wtih woodcut initials, one page with decorative woodcut border; shoulder note printed in red and black. 8x5½, limp vellum, spine lettered in gilt, ribbon ties.

Handsome printing of Sir Thomas More's principal literary work, a speculative political essay first published in Latin in 1516 - communism is the general law, a national system of education is extended to men and women alike, and the freest tolerance of religion is recognized. Pretty heady stuff.
