3 volumes. 80 colored aquatints by Thomas Rowlandson including illustrated title pages in Tours 1 & 3. (8vo) 10x6¼, original green cloth, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, elaborate blindstamp pattern on covers, all edges untrimmed, binder's label of Edmonds & Remnants affixed to rear endpaper of Vol. 1. Ninth Edition.

The complete tours of Dr. Syntax, a poetic spoof on the many travel narratives of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and a marvelous forum for Thomas Rowlandson's captivating illustrations. 81 plates called for on title pages however the plate lists call for only 79 with the illustrated title page in Vol. 3 not listed. Presumably there was an illustrated title page planned for the Second Tour but not included here.
