Description

Heading:

zzc(Frémont, John Charles)

Title:

Life, Explorations and Public Services of John Charles Frémont

Author:

Upham, Charles Wentworth

Place Published:

Boston

Publisher:

Ticknor & Fields

Date Published:

1856

Description:

356 pp. Illustrated with a steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of Frémont and 13 wood-engraved plates. 7x4½, original blindstamped green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. First Edition.

Apparently a variant issue, with Upham's name on title but without the addition of the appendix. Wagner-Camp indicates it should be included in the later issues which bear his name; also, includes an extra plate (Head Waters of the Sacramento). (Wagner-Camp 282).

Condition:

Spine ends rubbed and frayed, corners a bit bumped; wood-engraved plates darkened and frontispiece foxed (as usual), still near fine.
