xii, 292 pp. Blank leaf at front. Original blue boards, spine lettered in black. In red morocco and cloth clamshell case. First Edition.

Inscribed and signed by Charmian London on front free endpaper: "Dear Marion Penhallow, This book is much later than my thoughts of you and yours! Forgive me. Be sure to read the foreword!" Marion Penhallow is believed to have been a friend of the Londons during their frequent visits to Hawaii. Jack London's autograph, clipped from a check or other document mounted to front pastedown below London's distinctive wolf bookplate. Mounted to the front blank leaf is a color illustration likely clipped from the front jacket panel of a man and woman in front of 2 statues (described as Mayan in Sisson & Martens). The rare Mills & Boon edition predates the American edition by 2 years. This copy corresponds to that described in Sisson & Martens; the BAL copy has 10 pages of advertisements not present here.
