This bibliography of German historical sources from the earliest to contemporary times was based on work by Marquard Freher (1565-1614) Counsellor to the Elector of Palatine, Professor of Jurisprudence at Heidelberg University, and author of numerous scholarly works. The compendium was completed, and later updated and expanded, by Johann David Köhler (1684-1755), scientist, historian, numismatist, librarian, etc., in Altdorf & Göttingen. The work also contains a brief survey of German historiography by Kaspar Sagittarius (1643-1694), Lutheran theologian & historian; a comparative chronology; and, this copy includes as an appendix a bibliography of printed sources prepared by Johann Paul Fincke (17??-1756) and printed by Frederick Matthias Frisius in Leipzig in 1737.
