A specially inscribed presentation copy with original drawings, signed by Fitzgerald to “W.L. Shelton, with Best Wishes, F. Scott Fitzgerald” and with 11 figure drawings captioned “Typical Sad Young Men” below inscription by Fitzgerald, in brown fountain pen on the front free endpaper. First printing with Scribner's seal on the copyright page and unbroken type on pp. 36 and 248. First state jacket with the lower half of the woman's lips completely unbattered. According to Bruccoli, later on jackets show a “progressive batter” with the lower lip in a downward angle. Laid-in includes a clipped article from June 19, 1981 Antiques & the Arts Weekly about the May 1981 Christie’s (London) auction, which discusses this copy of All the Sad Young Men, which sold well above their high estimate.
