Inscribed and signed by the author on the front free endpaper, "For Hiram W. Johnson, San Francisco, California. Dear Senator Johnson: I hope very much that you'll like "Wyatt Earp" and, I shall be gratified if in the book you can find some measure of justification for your kindliness to me. Sincerely, Stuart N. Lake. San Diego, California. October 28th, 1931." First issue with "belly" misspelled as "ellby," p.54, line 18. "The book purports to be a biography of Wyatt Earp, recorded at the instigation of his third wife. Many writers and other men who knew Earp personally held him to be utterly unlike the character portrayed by Lake. This book omits all the shady incidents of his life and does everything possible to glorify him" - Six-guns. Adams Herd 1300; Six-guns 1270; Howes L27.
