Inscribed on front free endpaper, "To my friend, Bishop N.S. Thomas, Feb. 25, 1920. C.A. Duniway." With Thomas's bookplate on front pastedown, that of the Beinecke Fund, Yale University Library, on rear pastedown. Duniway crossed the plains in 1852, and wrote what is considered the first literary work written and printed in Oregon, Captain Grey's Company, 1859.
