"Cleveland, an American adventurer and fur trader of the old school, describes his voyages here, including narratives of his expeditions to the northwest coast of America in the brig Caroline, 1799-1801, and the voyage of the Lelia Byrd to California in 1803-4. The former is especially valuable for its accounts of the Indians and their country at this early date, and the latter as one of but two accounts of the Battle of San Diego.
