Illustrated with 126 full or double-page heliogravures of Cartier-Bresson's photographs. (Folio) 14¼x10½, pictorial boards; pictorial dust jacket. Booklet laid in with the captions (as issued). First American Edition.

One of the most important post-War photography books. The jacket and boards are after a cut-out by Henri Matisse, specially designed for this book. Inscription on front free endpaper: "To Kiki & Ulrich, Lest they forget. From Aunt Clara & Aida".

Condition:

Jacket edge worn, scratched and with several repaired tears; boards edge worn, binding a bit shaken; else good.
