An interesting personal collection with ephemeral items from the 1950s and 60s. It was assembled by Helen Boyle, who worked for Bert Mattei, a friend of Herbert Hoover who attended the Bohemian Grove with him. Ms. Boyle seems to have organized many Grove activities - several letters concern her usefulness to the encampments. Bernice Miller's interview tells how she came to be Hoover's secretary, and she characterizes him as "the master of the short letter;" the letters in this collection show that to be true - most are quite brief, although cordial. One letter is from Hoover's son, Allan. The portrait is a print of an oil painting done by Arthur W. Palmer in 1952.
