"First study of the cartilage changes in achondroplasia." (Garrison-Morton 4361) "Kauffmann specified that the deformity occurred as a result of a disturbance in the growth raste of skeletal cartilage. Because of this interpretation he renamed it chondrodystrophia. This name has been more acceptable than the older term [achondroplasia], since it better describes the lesion as a disturbance in the growth of cartilage, rather than an absence of it" (Bick, Source Book of Orthopaedics, 2d ed., p. 155.).
