This is the "Charles Dickens" issue, with his name on the title-page rather than "Boz" (a result of Dickens' protests), and with the shortened title; it is the first state of the issue, with "pilaster" in two places on p. 164 of Vol. III (later changed to "pier" or "pedastal"). With the "Church" rather than the "Fireside" plate (captioned "Rose Maylie and Oliver") facing p. 313 in Vol. III, again the change being made because of Dickens' wishes.
