Finely printed on handmade paper with watermarks after nudes by Maillol. First conceived on a 1908 voyage from Greece with Count Harry Kessler, Maillol continued work on his illustrations for the Georgics sporadically for several years before abandoning the project. In 1937, at the urging of publisher Philippe Gonin, he resumed the project. The last blocks were delivered shortly before Maillol's death in 1944 and the project was completed in the spring of 1950.
