The first 17 plates are after designs by Inigo Jones and are primarily chimney pieces and mantles, the remaining plates, after designs by William Kent, feature designs for candelabra, chandeliers, furniture, as well as a section of Merlin's Cave in the Royal Gardens at Richmond and various architectural elevations. Jones (1573-1652) is often regarded as the first significant British architect and is credited with bringing renaissance architecture to England. William Kent (1685-1748) is best remembered as the central architect of the revived Palladian style in England.
