Arranged stylistically with text in Japanese. 20 examples of Japanese crests, or mon, per page for a total of over 4,000 examples. Crests in Japan emerged in the eleventh century among warriors and the upper class. Later, crests were designed and worn on kimonos, carriages, etc. of families from all social statuses. Japanese family crests, or Kamon, are still used today in formal wear or as company symbols. The examples within this volume range from very simple geometric shapes, to detailed renditions of plants, animals, or Samurai Kabuto (helmet).
