Title sheet, contents sheet & legend sheet + 27 color lithographed plates (2 of them double-page), being topographical maps, elevations, plans, etc. 53.5x46 cm. (21x18"), half sheep & marbled boards with leather spine & cover labels lettered in gilt. First Edition.

The bright lithographed plates depict the various geologic strata and topography of the district, along with plans of the mines. Lithographed by Julius Bien, N.Y. With printed slip at corner of title-page "Fifty-fifth Congress 3d Session, House Doc. No. 101. Atlas."

Condition:

Scuffing to leather; rubberstamps of Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa to title-page and a few other places, front free endpaper torn; very good.
