Adams was one of the leading Colorado cattlemen of the late 19th century. His ranch occupied some 100,000 acres of prairie and mountain land and he was responsible for the introduction of the Hereford to the Colorado herds. He was also a director in the Chihuahua, Sonora & Midland Railway, and builder and owner of the Adams Hotel in Denver.
