20.3x15 cm. (8x6") original sepia photograph, mounted on board, of Jim Barnes and Samuel Ryder dressed in suits in front of a clubhouse with arms around each other. * Also, a 2 page typed letter, signed from Samuel Ryder to Mrs. Jim Barnes, dated December 22, 1925.

A typed letter signed and a photograph of Ryder and Jim Barnes at the time of Barnes winning the 1925 British Open. The 2 page letter written to Mrs. Barnes in New Rochelle, N.Y. reflects on a conversation Mrs. Barnes had with Ryder at the Open, talking about Barnes' little daughter at home and Ryder now has bought the girl a silver cup as a present, "in my opinion, a very beautiful thing. It is a model of the finest form of old English tankard and is very graceful, and I am quite sure yourself and Mr. Barnes and your little girl, when she grows up will appreciate it. I have had put upon the cup a suitable inscription recording that the cup was presented to your little girl by me and that it was to remind her that her father won the British Open Championship in 1925." He continues narrating that he sent the cup and if he had a daughter, he would allow her to drink from the cup annually, on the date of the Open. "You will be pleased to hear that Mr. Barnes left a most excellent impression behind him in England. He is very much admired and esteemed as a man, quite apart from his being a great golfer. Will you kindly inform Mr. Barnes that I have not been able to arrange an International Match between Professionals of Britain and America at present but when he is over here playing for the open championship, it is quite possible that we shall arrange a match or two at Verulam Links. The finest player we have in England is Mr. Abe Mitchell and in order to win back the open championship I have engaged him as my private professional, his main duties being to practice and train." Additional good content and boldly signed at the close.
